At a glance
| Question | IQ test | Pattern reasoning test |
|---|---|---|
| What does it sample? | Verbal, logical, numerical, sequence, and spatial reasoning. | Abstract visual rule discovery across six complexity levels. |
| Format | 20, 40, or 50 items drawn as a balanced subset from the item bank. | 30 fixed items, easiest first, with five items at each level. |
| Timing | Timed: 15, 32, or 42 minutes, depending on form length. | Untimed; accuracy matters more than speed. |
| Language and learned skills | Some items use words, number relationships, and familiar reasoning conventions. | No vocabulary or trivia; familiarity with visual puzzles can still help. |
| Result | A model-based estimate with an uncertainty interval and a five-domain session profile. | A model-based reasoning index and interval, accuracy, and highest level cleared. |
What the IQ test adds
The broader test asks whether your reasoning holds across different material. Its five domains deliberately mix word relationships, formal logic, number patterns, sequences, and spatial problems. A balanced subset is drawn for each sitting, and the answer order is shuffled. That breadth is useful if your question is, “How did I perform across several common reasoning tasks today?”
What the pattern reasoning test isolates
The pattern test removes words, arithmetic prompts, and a countdown. It starts with single transformations, then adds matrix rules, combined changes, overlays, distributions, and integrated rules. This makes it a cleaner look at finding and applying rules in unfamiliar figures.
The form is fully deterministic: every visitor sees the same 30 items in the same order. The pattern test methodology describes the levels and scoring in detail.
Which one should you take?
- Choose the IQ test if you want varied problems, a timed challenge, or a rough view across five reasoning domains.
- Choose the pattern test if you want a visual, untimed challenge focused on increasingly complex rules.
- Take both if you want to compare breadth with abstract depth.
Make the sitting more useful
Use a comfortable screen, silence notifications, and take the test when you are rested. Do not search for answers or restart to improve a headline score. For the timed IQ test, select a form you can finish without interruption. For the pattern test, work steadily but stop if fatigue turns the later items into guessing.
